The Danish Health and Medicines Authority warns against widespread sale of illegal potency enhancers.
Over the first nine months of 2012, the Danish Health and Medicines Authority was made aware of 54 illegal potency-enhancing products found to contain active pharmaceutical ingredients not declared anywhere on the package or in the product information. The findings are a result of international cooperation.
There is no mention of the active substances anywhere in the product information or on the package, and the Danish Health and Medicines Authority therefore warns consumers against taking the products.
A few of the products were found in shops, but the majority were sold on the internet and found in postal parcels. All products have been tested in laboratories and were found to contain, among other things, the substances sildenafil, tadalafil or vardenafil. These substances are contained in authorised prescription-only medicines like Cialis®, Levitra® or Viagra®.
The Danish Health and Medicines Authority recognises the possibility that Danish consumers have bought these illegal potency enhancers and generally advises everyone to exercise extreme caution if buying medicines online.
Sometimes, manufacturers present their products as harmful 'herbal products', 'coffee powders' or 'revitalising mixtures', but as evidence shows they could in fact contain prescription-only pharmaceutical substances, which means that they could be dangerous for you.
The Danish Health and Medicines Authority has found that two of the illegal potency enhancers, MaxiMen Pills and Viamax Pure Power, were sold from Danish companies in 2012.
